"Monster's University"

The prequel to the legendary "Monsters Inc" was up to par with its original movie, and in fact, I thought was better! The animation was fantastic and the concept was brilliant. The only flaw I could find in this film was that I wished they would've made it more comedic. I don't consider that a huge issue though as I was having a bad day and this turned it all around. The best female actress was Helen Mirren easily, as though she was really the only lead female character. The nominees for the best male actor are Billy Crystal for Mike, John Goodman for Sullivan, Joel Murray for Don, Sean Hayes for Terri, and Charlie Day for Art. The winner is Billy Crystal for being so awkward and yet making the movie so entertaining to watch. Hellen and Billy join Skylar Astin and Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect) and Amanda Seyfried and Shiloh Fernadez (Red Riding Hood). Pixar yet again creates a memorable and touching story! My rating is a 96% (A).

"Red Riding Hood"

Though I do love new examples of timeless fairy tales, this one wasn't executed as well as it should've been, and instead of creating a wolf, they created more of a poodle with a head cold. The direction of this film was NOT as it should have been in any way, shape, or form. The scenery and set, however, I thought, were magnificent. The movie could have been top of the year if it had taken more time to nail the little things. The script, undoubtedly, is the biggest issue. Though some of the lines were empowering, the majority of them generated a cheesy feel and ruined the effect of the movie. The casting, however, I found fine. I've taken the duty I picking out the best of the actors to determine who deserves an award. For the Outstanding Female Actress, I felt as though Amanda Seyfried, for her role as Valerie, Virginia Madsen, for her role as Suzette, Julie Christie, for her role as Grandmother, and Shauna Kain as Roxanne should be nominated. They all did exquisite jobs and all should be proud of their individual work. I chose Amanda Seyfried to win the virtual award, as I felt it takes a lot of courage to throw yourself out there, with an acting career already, and be handcuffed to a well surrounded by fire while still keeping a cool. She continues to make that "good girl" label onto herself. For Outstanding Male Actor, I felt as though Gary Oldman as Solomon, Billy Burke as Cosaire, Shiloh Fernadez as Peter, and Max Irons as Henry ought to be nominated. Though I thought Max really made you love his character, and Gary made you hate his, both of them weren't as unpredictable  as the other two. When Billy Burke was chained up and thrown into prison, saying goodbye to Valerie, it pulled at your heart a little bit. However Shiloh made his "tough guy" appearance make you believe that he could be a killer, even when he was ready to strip down naked in the snow and sleep with Amanda, as well as fight guards twice his size, only to be captured and thrown into an elephants butt hole. He impressed me with his change of character, and I chose him to win the award. Amanda and Shiloh will join Skylar Astin and Rebel Wilson (for Pitch Perfect) in the winners circle. I am impressed with the acting, the set/scenery, and the props (such as chests, cloaks, handcuffs, weaponry,  etc), but not so much the script or the overall direction of the film. I give it a grade of 75%, or a C.

Review of "Pitch Perfect"

Well Bloggers!
My first review! And what a better way to start off than a review of a hilarious and heartwarming story! I loved this movie. One of the greatest musical comedies I have seen, hands down. Anna Kendrick is inspiring and the rest of the cast should be given great applause as wel, especially Skylar Astin, who plays a nice-guy with a great voice, Brittany Snow who will make you laugh and shows off yet again her beautiful voice, and of course, Rebel Wilson, who I thought was the funniest member of the cast and the movie. The music is great, the lines are funny, and I am glad that this movie got the high praise it got as I think that, and I don't say this too often, was one of my top ten movies of 2012. I watched it again today, as I felt the first time wasn't enough. Congradulations on a great movie, everyone! However, there were a few issues I had. I really loved the character development of Beca and Jesse, but I would have liked to see them  do more with their romance. The lip syncing by the actors is for the most part pretty good, but towards the end there were a few slip ups that annoyed me. A great movie with a great cast! I really hope that all four of the actors I complimented continue on their careers, as well as all else in the cast. If they do make a sequel, I hope they execute it well. When they create a sequel, I really hope they don't ruin it as many sequels do. Good luck everyone, and great movie!
